Style Q&A - You Ask. Joy Answers!

Question: What is one mistake people make when trying to redefine their style for leadership roles?

Joy’s Response:

One of the biggest missteps I see? Playing it safe and shrinking to fit.

In an effort to “look the part,” many women dilute their unique flair and opt for neutral, generic, or overly traditional choices that mute their message. But leadership style isn’t about blending in. It’s really about showing up boldly, authentically, and intentionally.

When you redefine your style for leadership, don’t dim, you must define.

Let your power shine in bold structure, your presence in graceful ease, and your purpose in every polished detail. That’s the magic of stepping into the spotlight with Signature Style.

Question: Is it possible that the colors I think suit me actually don’t?

Joy Answers:

Yes, absolutely! Let me just say this, once you begin to get the flavor, the flair, and the flow  - understand and know your colors - you’ll put colors up to you and you’ll say, whoops, that’s not me.

Question: What is your philosophy about shoes-fashion or function? It is so hard to find both.

Joy's Answer:

Let me tell you this. Sneakers are in. I do a lot of public speaking, back and forth onto the stages. When you arrive there, maybe in your sneakers, but when you’re ready to go out on that stage, you want to have on a pair of shoes that have some style to them and fit you. Remember balance. Shoes are major, and sneakers have become a fashion signature. Now, we don’t want “matchy, matchy,” but we want things to blend. So your sneakers or the right shoe should fit your style,. I say you need three pairs of basic, standardized shoes that you wear casually, dressy, and every day, however that plays out for you and your style.

Question: When is it time to purge an item from your closet and how do you evaluate?

Joy's Answer:

When you go into your closet and you’re getting ready to go and you’re pulling out things that just don’t resonate any longer or you're constantly not choosing them, it’s a great time to purge items that just don’t fit your style any longer. In learning more about style, I teach you how to be aligned with the things that make you feel good and no matter the event, you are going to know what color to wear, what style to wear, and how to ensemble it to adorn your body.

Question: I find it difficult to find conservative, stylish clothing in plus size?

Joy's Answer:

Here’s what’s happening - we all see it - they make plus size styling very much akin to what they would design for the zero and the size eight, and oftentimes it does not work. That’s why, my friend, knowing your body shape and knowing what style preferences fit you best is so important. Then, when you go shopping, you’ll know and feel when you try it on and you’ll know right away if it works for you.
