Who Made The Decision To Kill Shame? Is Shame Dead?

It is not clear when the removal of shame came into the conscience of the American People, but it is a fact that it has arrived and is in full bloom. It has been a gradual thing, but it is no longer prevalent in our society and especially in the female sector. What is “Shame”: it is the painful feeling arising from the consciousness of something dishonorable, improper, ridiculous, etc., done by oneself or another.

How easy it is to say that it could be traced to and blamed for someone or something, that’s too easy. The bare-boned bottom line is that the goal of “building self-esteem” in our young children becomes the responsibility of everyone, we are all somewhat the cause of it. The language has taken a back seat, and the false sense of self-esteem that is all over the media has certainly had its impact and not for the best benefit.

Let’s look at a few prime examples of what has happened right here with how shame has been taken in and digested by you and us all. Example number one Hillary Clinton: About her dodging the sniper bullet. Today we laugh it off as fatigue or a different memory. Such blatant dishonesty should doom her career, but oh no, she is running for leader of the free world, no shame and we brush it off as “Clintonesque”.

Remember “Eliot Spitzer” caught with his hands in the cookie jar, and how he tried to figure out a way to keep his job? A high priced hooker offered millions to tell her story, no shame. Britney Spears and Paris Hilton have all gotten rich off despicable behavior. The glorification of sluts featured on mainstream news shows. Take a good look at what our culture has become, we have lost the ability to blush.

Have you seen what’s on the TV lately where people become stars by doing things for which most people would be embarrassed? My mother and most likely yours would say stop encouraging such behavior. Self-esteem was not her concern it was more about self-respect. Everyone lies, we’re all sinners, what type of outlook is that? There was a time in America when you were taught to be ashamed of your sins. Sadly, those days have gone the way of sin-hating Christians. What Happen?

When you probe deep here is the unfortunate part of it, and it hurts because we are all a reflection of this madness. We know that so many of the people whether they be politicians or celebrities that they lie, not all but many. We still consider them worthy of public service or acclaim. Pastors endorse them; pundits justify their behavior, and Christians vote for the lesser of the evils.

The question before you, in your personal life, do you trust liars? In schools the kids are out of control, discipline is non-existent. Everyone is afraid to do anything. We no longer honor character. We glorify the character-less. Americans need to own up to having more shame. We need to make it clear that some behaviors are not acceptable. We have to teach our children that behaviors have consequences, which one’s actions affect others. We need to get back to and accept shame.

Until the next time, take good care and be well.
