When the key to a life of service is understood the meaning of life shows its gift to you and that’s a pretty profound lesson to obtain. It is safe to say that at the core of any business are some fundamental truths that apply to just about everything and the bottom line would be service. The key to happiness is service, but it does not mean that everyone should drop what they’re doing and start working in the service business.
What we mean is simply this, no matter what you do for a living, it is good to remember that at the core of what you do is service. The truth being whatever your work it is to serve the needs of someone. By definition, to be of service means one must actively help another or do work for someone else. So, regardless of the end goal or results of your personal work, everyone’s job hinges on ideas or a process to aid others.
It does not matter what you do for a living, you can be a scientist, an architect, a rock musician, a banker, a fisherman, a politician, a medical professional, a parent, or a baker, you name it – your role is to help people. Being of service should be the reason behind everything you do. Whether or not we’re aware of it, we’re all in the business of being of service to one another. One of the many reasons why so many people are unhappy at their jobs could be that they have forgotten this piece of the equation.
When in the rush to get your work done you by-passed the primary goal of the work, and this rings beyond true when you are not doing the right work for your life purpose. Rather than to keep in mind that your goal is to make other people’s lives better in some small or meaningful way, you focus on the minutia. Deadlines, emails, conferences calls, technology, difficult bosses, co-workers that get on our nerves, and long hours take the focus of the actual end goal and rearranges your priorities.
Great moments of service starts quietly. You do your job and then, for some inexplicable reason, you go the extra mile for someone. You do something extra nice for a co-worker or friend, giving generously of yourself ( with a quiet humility that comes so quickly it even shocks you), to a client or customer. You do this thing this kindness not because you have to but, because you want to and because it feels right. Living a life of service is all about, the more you give, the more you get, and that has been proven over and over again, test it.
No, we are not saying that being of service is easy, being of service is a difficult thing but it is our belief that it is one of the primary keys to finding happiness. It goes somewhat like this you are making deposits in someone else’s bank account and still getting dividends, not sure what type of banking account that is but you have to like the way it works. Why, because being of service to others is an investment in your future happiness.
How your humble acts of service will reveal your purpose in life and be your gift paying you unlimited dividends, so serve with heart and win.
Until the next time, take good care and be well.
