When you have a working knowledge of science, both as a body of facts and as a habit of thought, it helps you understand the world in ways that are not available to people who are less science-literate. Everyday applications of scientific knowledge and the openness to novel concepts encourage exploration and discovery and enriches one’s life twofold. Science also can comfort and promote good behavior.
Science is important because it influences most aspects of everyday life, including food, energy, medicine, transportation, leisure activities and more. Science improves human life at every level, from individual comfort to global issues. Scientific research is responsible for dramatic increases in food products and many advances in modern medicine as well as the human use of electricity.
What everyone has to do now more than ever before is to become more “science literate” it has to be a necessity; we can not escape from the significance of science in our world today. Not everyone has been taught to think critically. Also, we have lots of people who have been provided with the tools to analyze and test a problem or situation.
Science has invaded every branch of modern life. The things that we use in our daily life are mostly due to science. Remember our forefathers wore clothes woven by hand. Things have changed and today the clothes you wear are manufactured in great factories with scientific methods. We had paper and fabric before but nowhere near the massive quantities that can be produced today in the factories and mills.
Today time and distance for each of us has been conquered. We can travel from one place to another with a quickness that our forefathers could not have imagined. The word global has sunk in, and there is no distance as before, one can speak with and send messages all over the world in a few short seconds. Science has added tremendously to the comfort and conveniences of humanity and what a blessing for us all.
What we can not deny are the disadvantages but they too in time will be erased, one example is how man has now become a slave of machines. The creative powers within men are gradually becoming weaker and weaker. Even so, that said we can and will not go back to the olden days, but we can become masters of scientific thinking by having an awareness of it and not the slave of it.
Until the next time, take good care and be well.
