Why It’s Easy To Connect With Others Through Music!

It’s not difficult to see how certain music makes it easy to connect with others because it can mirror your thoughts and feelings. Lyrics or melodies can potentially communicate the message that you want to convey. Songs can capture an emotional state or personal situation in the very best possible way. Music exists to speak the words we can’t express, and when words fail music speaks.

Haven’t you witnessed how music brings people together? The melodies of a song will cause people to think alike, the harmonies will cause people to feel a certain something, and the rhythms will inspire us to move our bodies. In this way, music is like magic. Music may well be one of the universal truths that foster connections and propels them forward.

It appears that music is a mechanism for humans to connect with one another. We are encouraged to share parts of ourselves through the sounds that are strung together in the music. When we are telling our stories or channeling who we are with music, awareness is developed, within our being and we make a bond with the music. Music moves people of all cultures, in a way that doesn’t seem to happen with other animals.

Nobody understands why listening to music, which unlike sex or food, has no intrinsic value yet it can trigger such profoundly rewarding experiences. Researchers are trying to figure it out with the help of brain scanners. Music is an intellectual reward; it’s an exercise for your whole brain. We now know that music strengthens social bonds and it seems the answer may lie in our desire to connect.

Music increases contact, coordination, and cooperation with others. For much of human history, the only way to experience music was live. In that period there were no recordings to share music outside of performance. We also get an Oxytocin boost, and it is known to increase bonding and trust between people. Oxytocin is also released when we listen to music a factor which increases our social connection.

What’s fascinating is how music strengthens our theory of mind and “empathy”. It activates many areas of the brain, including the circuit that helps us to understand what others are thinking and feeling and to predict how they might behave. A great social skill to have and scientist have linked it to “empathy”. Increased Cultural cohesion is brought about through our music. Music works a lot like language does emotions, intent and ideas are voiced and communicated through it. In this way, music like language can be passed on from generation to generation creating a sense of continuity and loyalty to one’s tribe.

Nowadays, music has the potential to make us feel connected to all of the humanity. The increased empathy, social connection, and the cooperation it brings into our lives make music a pleasure in our lives and adds joy in our hearts.

Until the next time, take good care and be well.
