Does having good taste always mean that one has good style? NO, it does not, good taste does not always mean good style. When you think about it, good taste can display a very reliable opinion on the latter, meaning style. Let’s break it down so that you can see how STYLE, lives by its design and it resonates in all and everything that it comes in contact with by design.
When someone has Style, she can wear the same pair of spectacles for 20 years because they suit her face. Style knows that trends may come and go but knows herself well enough to avoid most of them. The style is everything from relaxed and unaffected to adventurous and daring. Pure Style does not need to dip her toe into the pool of gaudy. She doesn’t need that kind of attention. Style lives by her design, and it resonates in everything she does.
Someone with taste is a good listener. Taste is careful not to question. Let’s give Taste a little credit though; she understands scale and proportion. That’s right and pleasant, but it doesn’t necessarily turn heads or make you think. Taste appropriately mixes high and low in a nod to the ailing economy. Taste knows what brands are up and coming and does them a favor by being seen in them. The style is not necessarily loyal to any brand, but if something genuinely speaks to her, she is passionate about it. In the end, that is the difference between style and taste; True Style has passion. It carries with an authentic energy. Who would you like to meet, Taste or Style?
So what is the difference between Fashion and Style? Here is my definition:
Fashion is the relationship to the external.
It is concerned with “what’s out there” (fashion items, in the stores). It’s a matching process between what’s out there in (fashion’s primary interest) to what you’re wearing. Ask yourself if what you are wearing and dressed in is a ‘match’ for what’s ‘out there, and is deemed what’s ‘in fashion’ and popular for now?
The style is the relationship to the internal.
It’s about “what’s in here” (my sense of self, my identity, my perception of who I am). The matching process is what’s here and how that is reflected and expressed in what I’m wearing. Does my clothing ‘match’ my sense of who I am, at least for today?
Fashion distracts, style connects, you are your clothes. The style is a way to make closer your relationship to yourself, as its focus and orientation are on the self and how it’s informed and expressed by clothing choices.
Loving and honoring yourself, that’s true style. Style has a dynamic nature, too, but ts dynamism has to do with the expression of who you are and your sense of self It’s about honoring your uniqueness and having your outsides match your insides.
Never confuse Fashion and Style because the style is about utilizing the best aspects of you and you should care about it.
Until the next time my friend, take good care and be well.
