The meaning of science is derived from the Latin word “scientia” which means knowledge. Therefore science is about gaining knowledge either through observing, studying, experience, or practice. Entire knowledge acquired through science is about discovering truths, uncovering phenomenon hidden by nature. Observations and experimentation, in science, support in describing truth and realities through systematic processes and procedures.
What science is to you will reveal much more than just gathering knowledge in that it is also building something that is useful, practical and realistic. When you are collecting information to gain knowledge to replace old ideas with new ones. Science for you should be a means to understand and a method to approach any source to obtain information. It is an interesting speculation and interesting discussion with your peers for growth.
Science is a lot of things to a lot of people. Some folks think of science as beakers, test tubes and experiments, others as statistics and numbers. Many others will see science as the understanding of Universe’s mechanism. Other will see it as the path of nature and as the universal language. It can be for others a very systematic way of exploring how the world works. It is the ability to be able to say with certainty we know how things work and why.
The question might be what has science done for you lately? The answer would be plenty. If you think science does not matter much to you, then it is time to rethink that way of thinking. Science affects us all each and every day of the year from the moment we wake up through the night. Your digital alarm clock, the weather report, the asphalt you drive on, the bus you ride in, your decision to eat a baked potato and on it goes you get the picture.
Opinions run rampant but here are a few things that you can do every day that will increase your appreciation and understanding of science.
Play Computer Games – Essentially, new tasks and sensory input activates neural circuits and improves overall brain health. What better reason to play games.
Take Lots Of Breaks – It is not what it might seem not an excuse to check Facebook every minute, it means get out of your chair and move. Ironically it increases your productivity.
Eat Protein For Breakfast – Eggs, yogurt, milk and even nuts if that’s one of your favorites, just add lots of protein in the morning. It could be the secret to staying trim bad fat-free.
Happiness may be different for each person, but there is a science behind it we can not deny. True happiness may have a different definition to each of us, science can give us a glimpse at the underlying biological factor behind happiness. From the food we eat to room temperature, there are a thousands of factors that play a role in how our brains work and the moods that we are in.
When we understand these factors they can be helpful in achieving lasting happiness.
